Veterinary Assisting

Our Veterinary Assisting program immerses students in the essential knowledge and hands-on skills needed for a future in animal care. Students explore animal anatomy, disease prevention, surgical assisting, grooming, and the daily responsibilities of working in a professional veterinary setting.

Students in this program can showcase their skills through competitions at the Florida State Fair and actively participate in FFA, including membership in our Jacobson Technical FFA chapter. Graduates may also earn their Certified Veterinary Assistant (CVA) credential, preparing them for immediate entry into the workforce.

All students complete a 250-hour internship at a local veterinary hospital, providing real-world experience and fulfilling the requirement to sit for the CVA exam.

Whether caring for animals, supporting veterinary teams, or building leadership skills through FFA, our Veterinary Assisting program sets students on a strong path toward a rewarding career.

• CVA – Certified Veterinary Assistant (by FVMA – Florida Veterinary Medical Association)
• AHA American Heart Association CPR
• First Aid

• School insurance
• 250 Hour Veterinary Hospital Internship

Dress Code:

• Scrubs worn daily, any school appropriate designs are acceptable
• Closed-toe shoes
• Suggest purchase of galoshes as students will be walking in mud and excrement (waste matter).  Veterinary students have lockers in the Veterinary building.
• Students will need one set of Tech High Scrubs for events
